EGGS HATCHING!! questions about peeping and piping

I hear it becasue I have my dang ear pressed up to the bator like it's my first time hatching EVERY time! It wakes me up some times too and the bator is in the next room every time. I'm a pretty light sleeper though. I may have to kill a rooster soon actually, dang thing keeps waking me up at 5AM. Micah never hears it. Told me I need to learn to sleep harder. Because that's possible.

*(I have to admit here I read back through this before posting and realized that I was announcing a rooster was wacking me up!)*

So this is my first hatch of hen brooded eggs and one of them is pipping! I checked the egg and I can hear little cracking/pecking noises! I'm so excited!

Congrats on your hen brooded eggs! My Buff Orpington hatched 4 eggs while I had 4 in the incubator. The ones she hatched, she took care of. The incubator ones I had to take care of!!! not so much fun when things got aromatic!

I managed to slip a couple of incubated chicks under her - she was ok as long as they looked basically the same - no dark chicks were accepted!

I am waiting once again, for the incubated eggs- 2 have pipped and here I am at 2:36 am still checking on them!

A watched pot never boils, but I don't want to count my chicks before they hatch, and they better hurry up. I started with 14 eggs, and two of 3 that looked good have pipped. There are 2 more that I haven't given up on - hoping that they are just not as far along as the others!
Hopefully in the morning I will be

because these are olive eggers and crested cream legbars - hoping for some more colors in my egg basket!

ps I actually sang a particular baby song to my eggs while they were hatching, and then as long as I had them in the house. They come running when they hear me sing it - they are now 7 weeks old and have been in the small coop for 4 weeks!

Awww that's so sweet to sing to the unborn chicks. I'm at day 20 and haven't heard anything from under my broody. First EVER chicks. Soooo excited! But I'm being good and not disturbing the first time broody; she is sitting on 10 purchased eggs, 8 were shipped. Tomorrow?

Congrats on your impending hatch! Since the post about the olive eggers, I have hatched french black copper marans chicks, and just 2 days ago, 6 mixed chicks hatched. My stepson works on a farm and brough me a gift!

This last batch was actually earlier than I expected. 4 hatched on day 20, 2 more on Day 21. Needless to say, I didn't go to bed for a long time after that! Those 4 eggs went from pip to zip and hatch in 3 hours!

I don't have any reliable broody hens right now, and I am torn, because when the broody hatches them, the chicks are not as friendly. But they sure looked cute peeking out from under Buffy!

It will be awhile... My OE Cockerel and 1 Crested Cream Legbar pullet - both 6 weeks old, were taken by a predator day before yesterday! I had just started to give the chicks more freedom using a fence that had "doors" in it that only the little ones could get through...Lesson learned that the outer run is not as predator proof as we thought. Time to do some more work.

FBCMs in the incubator due in 10 days so maybe next year, unless my BO become broody again. Then i will be

Question about peeping: it is now the afternoon of day 21 and I'm not hearing any peeping. I'm trying to be patient, but when should I be worried? She's sitting very flat on 10 eggs still.

Hi Cat! love the name. Not all of my eggs have chirpped, peeped, cheeped, etc! You can read some other responses at the thread
Should you always hear chripping before they hatch??

I don't know if you would hear the peeping under a broody. I have only hatched under a broody once, and I didn't hear anything until the chicks actually hatched. Then I could hear them on my Nest Cam, and they popped up very soon after.

I've realized that sometimes you lose chicks and chickens. All you can do is love them while you have them.

Please keep us posted. You may get more info from some of the other more experienced members. I'm only 11 months into the whole chicken addiction!
