Hi,
We recently received an unbranded incubator from China which holds 48 eggs as a gift. The person who bought it for us did a lot of research on several different incubators, and this one has really good reviews.
The instruction manuel that came with it has really good, specific, clear instructions that were clearly thought out. It says very clearly, that before incubation, to store the eggs with the pointy end down. It says when you load the incubator, the eggs should have the pointy end UP, and the blunt end DOWN. So we loaded the incubator with the pointy end UP.
I was reading about this earlier, and realized almost everyone says to incubate with the pointy end DOWN. We even looked on the manufacturer website, and it says there, unlike the instruction manuel, to incubate with the pointy end DOWN. We have emailed the manufacturer asking about this, but we don't know if we will get a response, and we want to make sure we have our eggs facing the way they need to be in order for the chicks to be healthy.
We are on day 9 of incubation. The automatic egg turner turns the eggs very well every 2 hours. We candled the eggs for the first time yesterday, and we can clearly see development as there should be at this stage- veins, and the embryo moving around, and the eye of the embryo- in the majority of the eggs. The air pocket cavity is at the bottom of the egg, towards the blunt end. The embryos seem to be at the top, towards the pointy end of the egg.
Will the chicks be able to develop and hatch correctly this way? Are they getting enough air? Has anyone ever successfully incubated with the pointy ends UP before?
Should we leave them as they are until we pull the turner out and put them in lockdown on day 18? At this point will it mess them up if we turn the eggs and put the pointy end down? Or should we just take the turner out and turn them manually until lockdown?
Any help will be appreciated! We so just want the chicks to be healthy, and don't know what to do without messing this up.
