Eggs in the office rant

They always freak out and say "What? You can't be a farmer! You don't smell! You are not dirty! In fact you smell good.". They don't get it. I always get the "Why would you do that to yourself?" question and I tell people that it is one of the most rewarding and truly inspiring things in life to see an animal be born and raise it into a beauty. I have been there when both of my foals were born and it still makes me tear up. People like that will never be able to see or enjoy this beauty or live beyond the walls of their cubicle and simple life. I should feel sad for them but they are so irritating that I am having a hard time doing so.

I spent my lunch yesterday talking to a friend about chickens and eggs. She was fascinated and also slightly repulsed, especially at the thought of green and blue eggs. She said her kids would love them but they would probably gross her out.

She's a super sweet person and no dummy by any means, but the thought of eating fertilized eggs that weren't white just kind of did her in.

For my part, the thought of having to do anything with my hands wearing the fake nails she had on did ME in.

I hope you told them that those bleached eggs from the store can be up to 45 days old before they actually reach the store......now that's yucky!! I'd take my farm fresh eggs any day over those!!

P.S. I loved your remarks about horse poop not being as dangerous as they think. I'd rather step in horse dung than doggie doo-doo any day!

I sure did, it was on my "Ad" that I included with the eggs. In my strange mind I also figured that people would be more inclined to buy eggs if they saw them in front of them and how pretty they were. Well, excuse me for being silly.

I freaked them out last week when we were talking about horse poop. I told them I love winter for when I have cold feet during chores, I simply stick my feet in the manure pile to warm them up. It is so warm and mushy...ahhhh.... They just glared at me as I walked away. I find it quite therapeutic.​

When I see those store eggs I just see sadness. A sad little chicken in a sad world that doesn’t know any different.
