Eggs Just Got Here And I’m Freaking Out!

I think you should wait the full 24 hours from when you started the eggs to start the turner. Those wobbly air cells are still settling. Handling the eggs won't help the air cells stay in place. Now that they're incubating I wouldn't touch them for at least a week and would probably not candle until the twelfth day.
It has now been just over 24 hours. Thank you

I just wondered if you guys wanted to see how the air cells were doing.
It's fine. I was going for Zen, sorry if it came off as snarky.

I know it's an exciting new adventure, but it's more of a quest. It will take a while and there are a lot of boring parts that get edited out whan you tell the story. The next week will be boring if everything goes well.

Yeah, ok.

So, do you think I could plug in the turner?

You're monitoring right now. The incubator is doing most of the work. Candling just adds risk for very little reward. After all, what can you see at this point and what would you do about anything you saw except put the egg back and wait? The embryo is just getting started. There's nothing to see yet and if you disturb it too much, especially while the veins are growing there might never be anything to see.

If you planted garden yesterday would you dig up all the seeds today to see if they've sprouted yet? 🤔

How well is practicing calm and patience going? 😕
True, but it is exciting, and I think ButtonHoarder was more wondering if we wanted to see the air cells.

Also I know many people candle on the 3rd and 7th day and have much success.

Yeah, ok.

Sure. It's going to hold the egg upright so the air cell will stay at the proper end. And it's going to slowly rock the egg back and forth so movement shouldn't be extreme for the embryo. If you want to follow Mystry Ckicken's advice and wait another day or two you can, but given your set up it should work fine either way.

Do the people who candle on the 3rd day with shipped eggs have much success?

I've just had lots of trouble with shipped eggs this year and am being as conservative as I can to give the eggs the best chance possible. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but maybe I'm not explaining that very well.

I actually don't know if they were shipped or not... this was a friend who I haven't been in touch with for a while. I think that they mostly candle on day 3 for fun, or to see if they could see anything, but I've never actually hatched eggs before... But I definitely know lots of people candle on day 7.

I'm not saying they don't. It's just that with shipped eggs you have no idea what conditions they encountered in 3-5 days of travel. But it's usually safe to assume they weren't optimal since shipping tends to cut the hatch rate at least in half. Meaning if you have a dozen eggs you're being very optimistic if you think you are going to get six healthy chicks.

I'm just giving advice I think will give all the chicks still viable their best chance and assuming the maximum hatch rate possible is the goal. I'm wo|King from a premise that all handling is a risk so unnecessary handling is to be avoided. Nothing I'm suggesting is mandatory, it's just advice and I'm not the fun police. At least I'm not trying to be.

Hey guys. Do these eggs look like there’s still hope?
