Eggs on Ebay

I've bought some eggs off ebay. They were well packed but did not hatch, none of them.

Early last spring I was searching Ebay for Standard Cochin eggs(just looking). I found an auction that was advertising SQ Black Cochins Eggs. I read the entire auction. In it they even quoted that the birds were of their actually breeders.

When I looked at their photos, one of them was this one: Picture

That is NOEL. She is my bird. She been with me since she was 5 months old and is 2.5 years old now.

They didn't even have the pic on their own account, they just linked to MY public pic folder.

I emailed the one offering the eggs. They didn't respond so I took it up with Ebay. Their account was eventually Frozen.

I have heard of this happening more and more.

We had a person about a month ago did a cut and paste from the description of one of our turkey auctions. We contacted them and they were quick to remove it but now the same people are selling BBW turkeys and claiming that they self reproduce, it is just tooo funny.

I just feel bad because if you are buying them for your kids to show in 4-H or just for your own pets...you get these eggs love them hatch them watch them grow, then see they aren't what you wanted, now you will have to wait a long time to get new birds if your coop is full. I keep all of my birds as pets and this would really bum me out! Then I wouldn't want to propagate them to give to my friends and neighbors if they are poor quality or even mixed when they were advertised as purebred good quality.

Plus even worse: You are just getting into chickens, you're still a kid, you buy "Rhode Island Reds" you enter the fair...and get laughed at. Sure you should do more research, but that's still not fair! That is sooooo misleading!

They should just call them "Brown Egg Layers" or "Farmyard Layers" or something so you know they are mixed.

i have gotten eggs from EBAY too...
but i have been ripped off at least twice..
#1 one time i bought wild turkey eggs... kept getting excuses of why they have not sent them yet,, and after 2 months they stopped replying to my e-mails.. never got the eggs or my money back..
#2.. 13 eggs, arrived all broken eggs.. they did not replace them.. or get my money back
#3 8 self blue turkeys.. none hatched... i know they can not garentee hatching.. but chickens were hatching from my incubator,, but not those eggs..

but i have also got turky eggs from another place and i hatched out 4 beautiful wild turkeys... another place i got auracanas, only hatched out 2 roosters (not there fault)

just be careful and READ READ READ,, look at feedback and make sure they have sold to others that are happy....

There is one seller of giant blue cochin hatching eggs that makes me laugh/cringe. They claim that they've selectively bred their flock to produce almost completely blue, with very few splash produced and a rare black produced. And they're show quality...

I just hope that people do their homework about the genetics of andalusian blue before buying the eggs.

That seller alone makes me mis-trust most egg sellers on eBay.

Sigh. We all make mistakes and learn the hard way, right? Right??

I got eggs from ebay twice, both had problems. First one was a seller who claimed to have pure black turkeys(hard to find actually! Pure black flocks without any off color feathers that is). He had many pictures of a gorgeous black tom turkey shining jet black. I tried asking for pictures of hens, he made up excuses or flat out ignored(I asked several times.. should have realized that was a red flag..) Bid on half of a dozen. 3 hatched. Only one was pure black.. the others showed bronze type feathers mixed on their bodies. I contacted the seller and showed pictures- he was RUDE to me! Got angry at at me and everything.. wow..! He continued to sell more eggs, continued to get bunches of positive feedback from buyers who simply left feedback as soon as they got their eggs. From this lesson I decided it is better to wait until the chicks have hatched to 'prove' more or less they really are what you bid on them. Unfortunately these auctions usually have a limit on time you can leave feedback for them, right?(not a frequent ebayer)

Second time.. this lady on east coast had pure blue naked necks! Oh wow, been wanting them forever.. She had pictures showing hen and rooster, both were solid blue.. matching the standard for NN.. looks good so far... makes claim she had bred them generations.. no off colors, they are pure for naked neck etc etc.. I was very nervous about ordering(this IS ebay and had bad exerience with the above guy..) but my best friend decided to surprise me by bidding on them for me.. Awesome.

Well.. hatched 5. Guess what.. only two chicks had naked necks! Only one was black(expected.. but why does it have a fuzzy neck?!), one blue(thank goodness it DOES have a naked neck..), one white(OK it has naked neck but obviosly not pure for it.. This one feathered out solid white but turned out to be a splash.. but! with lots of red leaking on wings!) and..... two tan chicks?! I emailed the seller about the chicks.. she was very evasive and tried to make excuses such as 'throw backs' I pointed out she claimed she bred them pure for generations- that was never answered. I also asked if it was possible they were Barnevelder crosses(she also had listing for Barnies).. she denied this but honestly the two chicks grew up looking awful lot like what I would imagine Barnevelder crosses to look like (kept one pullet, she is now solid buff with blue tail and hackles- and she does seem to have different body type from the NN hen. She's very pretty but NOT what I expected/wanted..). As to the last communication she still refuses to acknowledge her stock were not pure/sent me wrong eggs/a rooster jumped a fence or something like that.. To be fair, she did offer to send a few eggs if I would cover shipping- declined because I did not want to waste more time if I was just going to get similar results again. And ME pay shipping/anything for HER mistakes? Um.. nope.
