One of my chickens is laying eggs on the coop floor. How do I make her lay in the near boxes? I also don’t know which chicken is doing it.

I use the fake egg trick to entice them to use the nest boxes. Sometimes, it works TOO well. It is well known that chickens tend to favor only certain nest boxes, no matter how many options are available. My girls will sometimes try to crowd into the same box two and three at time

Last week, one of the Salmon Faverolles sat on the head of one the Sapphire Gems because she wanted THAT nest box (not the empty one beside it) with THAT fake egg. Good luck teaching your girls better manners.

I have four nest boxes for seven chickens, (only four of which are laying right now) and I already have wooden eggs in each of the boxes. I saw two of the four laying chickens actively laying an egg in two of the nest boxes at the same time . The other two laying chickens laid their eggs many hours after the first two. One did it in the nest box the other on the floor. I’m not sure what the issue is.

Are they young or new layers? Might take them a while to figure out where they need to go. You can try to push them into laying in the boxes, but it does require that you know which chicken is responsible, or at least approximately when the wayward egg is being laid.

Yes they are new layers, I just was worried that the one laying on the floor will start a bad habit and then not learn where to go.
