On Saturday my eggs went into lockdown. This time I used egg cartons to see if my hatch rate would improve any. Two hatched yesterday with no problems at all. This morning when I got up I saw 2 more normal pips and after further inspection I saw 2 more pips on the small end of two other eggs. I laid them on their sides. Was this the right thing to do or should I have left them alone?

I am new at this, but I am pretty sure you aren't suppose to open the incubator after lockdown....You might have "shrink wrapped" those ones who have pipped.....

I had one that pipped at the wrong end. We had to help it a little but it hatched and is doing fine. Keep a close watch on those in case you have to help some.

I have one egg out of 6 that is dark as of day 17, I went into lockdown on Saturday too. The air sack on this egg is on the pointy end too, so I bet mine will pip on that end too. So scared it wont even hatch.

I just had TWO chicks hatch yesterday that had pipped on the wrong end and they are fine.

They were also on their sides in the incubator, being booted all around by the other chicks.

That's what I would have done. Good luck with them all!

I had one pip at the wrong end on my last hatch. I hatched them out laying on their sides. It took a lot longer to hatch then the others. It was one of the first to pip but the very last out. When it did finally make it out it was weaker and smaller than the others and had crooked toes. I taped his feet flat and after 2 days he was just fine and acting like all the rest of the chicks. I think that pipping on the wrong end means they have to work a lot harder to get out, but its entirely possible.

I had 2 pip on the wrong end on my last hatch. I took them out of the carton and lay them on their sides also. Make sure and give them extra time to hatch, since its harder. One of mine seemed to take forever to get out, but it did. Good luck

Both chicks made it out O.K. One just took a long long time though. Thanks for the help and encouragement.
