My broody beast is a bantam Cochin by the way.
This year she is 8! No laying this spring yet from her or the 7 year old.

I have seen hens move eggs to other nests without breakage. I haven't seen them do it, but I know none of us humans have, and I'm pretty sure the cats didn't do it.One of your other girls decided to join the club. Chickens can't do more than push an egg around, so they can't move them to another nest easily without breakage. They usually leave eggs where they are.
This is why I added 18 Blue Cochin chicks this year, so I can breed them with my black. I’m hoping for extra broodiness. Of course I have those bantam Cochin/chocolate Orp eggs from WVduckchick when I picked up the chocolate Orp hens. I think there may be a couple pure Banty Cochin eggs in there too.I added giant Cochin's last spring hoping for a big fluffy broody.
So far just small eggs from them.
Not that I neeeedd more chickens.
