I've gotten two with rough, rough shells in last week. Another hen is laying eggs with a "ripple" sort of pattern on the shell. The ladies appear to be fine, eating well. Ideas?

oh - and one of my peeps from last year ALWAYS lays huge double yolkers... The eggs are so big that they don't fit in the egg cartons. I guess she's jus an over acheiver....

DURING WORLD WAR 11, I WAS YOUNG AND WORKED ON A FARM. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE NAVY AND FEEDING THE SERVICE MEN EGGS WERE SHIPPED AS WHOLE EGGS IN A CARTON. WE WERE TOLD NEVER TO WASH AN EGG BECAUSE IT WASHED OFF THE BLOOM AND THE EGG WOUILD NOT LAST LONG ENOUGH BEFORE IT WAS EATTEN. WE WERE TOLD TO USE A FINE SAND PAPER OVER A SPONG TO CLEAN THEM. I HAVE SEEN MANY PEOPLE RECOMEND USING SAND PAPER BUT NOBODY EVER SAY WHY. IS MY STORY TRUE?
