A related question, so I didn't want to start a whole new thread, what other items are good calcium sources?
My boyfriend is severely allergic to shellfish so I'd rather not keep a bag of what amounts to poison in the house or have him have to risk dealing with it to care for the quail if I have to be away for work or something.
I know kale blocks calcium absorption but still provides more than it blocks, I just worry about it as a dedicated source of calcium supplement. I'd also prefer something more shelf stable.
We normally purchase duck eggs for eating at a local farmers market (our quail haven't begun to lay just yet), would washed and baked crushed eggshell be a suitable alternative? Once we start getting them we would naturally be giving quail eggshell instead.
Any other options I haven't thought of that would be even better?
Or any issues with sterilized eggshells I'm unaware of?
Thanks,
Jessie
