Eggs without rooster?

Ok, so I mentioned my chickens to my boss and he had a story for me about his sister's chickens....

He said that his sister had a chicken and the chicken wouldn't lay any eggs...so she was telling her mother and her mother told her that she needed a rooster. So her sister got a rooster and that next day the chicken layed 13 eggs!

Now...because he's my boss I'll let him believe this story but I see no way that this could be true.

Nope - definitely not true.
She may have just found the clutch of eggs that had already been laid but no hen will lay 13 eggs in one day and you definitely don't need a rooster to get eggs.

The timing of them getting a rooster and 13 of their chickens laying their first eggs was priceless!!
