Today when I was gathering eggs I found one under a tree in the enclosed section of our yard. Next to the egg was another egg that just had a membrane and no shell. How does this happen and what (if anything) can I do about it?

Give them oyster shell and crush up the egg shells and feed them back to them. Sometimes there is a hiccup in the plumbing. Usually nothing to worry about.

I have a small dish filled with a combo of oyster shell and grit in their coop. Maybe I should start adding it back to their feed again. I was told their would be less waste if I fed it separately.

Continue to feed it separately, they will eat it when they need it. Sometimes it is just a hiccup, I have a pullet that laid no shelled eggs for a week and then they became regular and she has not had one since.
