Eggs zipping!

Sorry.. my wifi has been out all afternoon. :barnie
I agree with oregonkat.. and just add to keep a close eye for any eggs that look weepy. Its a good sign they may burst.:sick
I missed the part about the bator being older. Mine are too, and hova bators as well. I find mine have an odd smell even with serious cleaning and sanitizing and letting them air out in the sunshine.
So id just watch close and wait!
:fl:fl:fl

I just got home, 1st chick is still fine, a 2nd egg is hatching now, it made a hole and is poking its way out...did not zip like the blue egg, im concerned about another egg that i see a crack in but no movement and no noise, it just has a slight crack, it was there prior to the 2nd chick hatching but hasn't gotten as far as the other one yet, should i be concerned? Its been a few hrs since the crack started but nothing since, and no hole to breath through like the other 2 made, these chicks are only at 19days, i spoke to the woman i got the eggs from and she said her chicks are always early for her when she incubates so maybe its just her eggs? Should i put a tiny hole in the egg where the crack it to make sure it can breath or leave it? Only concerned cause all activity seems to have stopped and others and getting ahead of it now

If you are relying on the instruments on your incubator alone, it is very possible that your temp was a little high during incubation and that is why your hatch is early. If you dont have an independent and calibrated (by you) thermometer and hygrometer, I strongly suggest getting some and calibrating them. If I missed this info in your post previously, I'm sorry, just trying to get all bases covered.

As to the current eggs. Just wait! It can take a long time. The egg with the crack, is it a long straight crack or an X?

Its a straight crack, about 1/4 inch going up & down not the usual zip around as the others and as I've seen in photos and videos online..thats why im concerned, should make a tiny peep hole near the crack for it incase hes too bid and get turn or something?

Sorry forgot to anser your thermometer question, I did not use the regular one that came with hovabator as i can't find it, but i bought a small digital one online (thermometer with hygrometer) that I had running in my own house for over a week to be sure it was accurate andit was on the money as far as temp goes going my my house thermostat, and i did the salt calibration thing as per online stuff i found and it seems ok. I did speak to the woman i got the eggs from and she said hers are always early..if thats at all possible..lol

unable to get a picture, the plexi glass looks foggy when i zoom in, i hope its ok, i dont think the crack has changed in the last few hrs, the 2 that have hatched are doing great, very vocal, the nap then walk around a bit chirping...lol so cute! 2 down 10 to go! gonna be a long couple daysI think...1st babies I won't sleep tonight! Now they are ok to stay in the bator correct, til all are out and dry from what I read, unless I have issues I planned on not opening it per everyones instructions, although I definetly will should i see a problem with one, yes I'm a medler...lol thnaks for responding i appreciate it

The one with the crack could very well be the stinker, thats an unusual type of crack for one thats hatching. If you work quickly and carefully ( dont bump the egg or drop it, i know it sounds obvious but you wouldn't believe how often it happens)
take it out, close the incubator and candle it unless you hear chirping from it, if so, put it back. :fl
As long as you work fairly quickly it will fine. Ive done it a million times with no issues. :hugs

Sorry I'm new at this so this may sound stupid for asking but what would I be looking for if i candled it? I did candle them 4 times during the 19 days, last time being yesterday, they all looked viable except the 2 really dark brown (maran eggs maybe)ones which i caould barely see thru at any point, i even marked all airsacs with a pencil as shown here and all the sacs grew as schedueled, or atleast going by the pics I found online and on this forum. I just don't want to lose any if it can be helped, i have read about the membrane being too tough or wet or whatver and the chick drowning or suffocating so when this one didn't crack as the others i got concerned. so what shoukd i look for when i candle?
