I take no credit for this artwork, but thought since this is a craft my mother does using eggshells, I thought I would share it on her behalf. This is something my mother started to do many years ago. She has always had an interest in natural fibre arts, and dying wools, rug hooking etc. Then one day she was inspired to try dying eggshells and creating art with them! For years, when I worked at the local market, I would find heritage eggs of varying colours and would save the eggshells for her. I got the benefit of the egg, but my mom would be tickled pink to have new colours of shells to work with, as the dyes would take differently to the different shells. Plus, I just loved the look of multiple coloured eggshells sitting in a mason jar waiting for our next visit. I know Im not alone in this, they're just so beautiful!
The designs are entirely those of my mothers doing. These are mosiac (yes, i before a, because we're weird) made from little pieces of eggshells. She uses a toothpick to place them, and it takes quite some time to complete one image. She has done some commissioned works, and my siblings and I certainly have a few wonderful pieces of eggshell art in our homes as well. She actually just made a punny children's book she wrote and illustrated using her eggshell art. It has taken a long time for her to come out of her shell (HA pun intended) and show the world what she has created. I thought this could be a good place to show some of her work as well.
If anyone is interested in seeing more, or contacting her, she does have a facebook group "Egg Shell Mosiac" (again, i before a). Sorry the image quality may not be the best with a few of these particular photos.
This one is called "feathered Family"

Spinning wool. (I love the tartan pattern for the boarder!)
The artwork and her children's book is going to be on display at her local library here in NS for the month of September. I am very pleased that she has finally come out of her shell to share her creations. I hope you enjoyed the images
