*EDIT: I should add that a person I got the eggs from collected them fresh the night before, and then brought them up to me. The place that she lives is very warm right now, so it is possible that they started developing before I got them. My incubator has been fairly steady I believe not going above 100, maybe 101. *

Also, I added more pictures. The first picture is the egg with blood on shell, the rest of the pictures are of the other egg that was dropped on the floor. In one of the pictures, I circled an eye, and the feet. In another picture, you can see my finger, the egg tooth is the little white dot next to it.

My toddler got into my incubator yesterday, unfortunately, two eggs were cracked. This particular egg had blood on the crack, I put wax over it, and waited until today but it didn't make it. I opened the egg and managed to keep the membrane intact, so I'm not sure what happened to him. Anyway, they are supposed to be on day 15 today, and I'm looking at this little chick thinking that he looks much farther along than that. Can anyone give me some insight? From pictures I saw online, he looks almost 17 days. Now I'm wondering if I should start lockdown tomorrow oh, I'm so confused 😓 Thank you.

I would start lockdown early. It doesn’t hurt much to start a few days early, as it happens in nature all the time. A really rainy week and the broody does a poor job at turning for the same week. Nature at its most convenient.

Okay! Thank you for the reply, that's a very good point. I was just talking to a friend about how funny it is that we as humans are so particular with these eggs, when in nature nothing is perfect, yet it is.

It's possible your temperature was a little high, speeding his development. I would do lockdown at day 18 as usual, but I don't know how much it would affect the chicks. I have a feeling it doesn't matter that much.

Yeah. A long time ago when I hatched eggs I messed up a lot. Nature isn’t perfect, and the most eggs hatch in nature, so it’s not bad if you make a mistake. The world works in strange ways and sometimes you just need to mimic it a bit and be strange in your ways.

I added some more pictures and info to original post.
It looks about 16 days to me. I just did a half shell experiment and grew a chick in half its shell. It made it to 18 days and then sadly passed. I took pics at everyday though. (In my avatar there's one)
I think you're little one looks about 16 days. I don't lockdown until I see the first internal pip. If you don't have internal pips until day 18, lockdown as normal.

Okay, thanks!
