Given the combination of his feather pattern, rose comb, and white earlobes, I'd say Jack was most likely a Rose Comb Brown Leghorn rooster, but of course, without a color picture it's impossible to say for sure, and there is always the possibility that he was a mixed breed.

Interesting, thanks for the input. I love vintage pictures of breeds of all sorts of animals, seeing how things have or haven't changed over time.
