ROFL!!!! I almost woke my son up laughing!!
(He needs a cool nickname like Drum ....)

Oh we need to get him one. Does he use the computer? I'm sure he's
a good reader with both parents in education.

My kid's reading skills are phenominal for a 2nd grader.
I've got Drumstick reading "Letters From The Desk of Ronald Reagan". I want him to
learn how to write letters like that. Whatever someone's political beliefs Reagan
was truly a great communicator. Eventually I'll even have him read a bio on Clinton.

:lol:He does use the computer but is just learning to read. Pretty well for a kindergartener but not quite ready for Reagan.
He is a nut for Indiana Jones, pirates and knights, pretty much in that order.

Sorry to go off topic but what ever happened to Sesame Street? Sesame Street
taught me SO MUCH. Even the so called educational shows today are all poopy.

Is your son doing full day or half day Kindergarten?

It's my thread-go where you want! He watched Sesame Street when he was younger. And he learned a lot from it. Now he watches Curious George and a few other new somewhat educational shows. We don't have cable beyond basic so that's it except for rented DVD's . He's seen some of the Young Indiana Jones series which is much more age appropriate than the Harrison Ford movies. He got into it because he likes Legos and they have a new I.J. series because of the new movie coming out. The pirates and knights are all toys he loves more than any others.
He's also a big Beatles fan and likes the music of a local surf rock band, Ninth Wave.

He goes to a Montessori school full day four days a week.

4 day a week full day?? That's great!!! My son did the full day thing and
it made a big difference. My friends kids who did the 1/2 day never had a chance
to start learning.

I must admit I didn't know what a Montessori school was until I just looked it up.
That looks really cool. Did he start their younger? Do I understand that he will
have to switch schools in first or second grade?

We did well. Our son went to a home based daycare part time to socialize him.
The owner was a teacher who started the daycare so she could stay home with
her own kids who were the same age as Drum.
We then sent him to a Stork Club for a year to adjust him to a larger group of
kids. I was extremely impressed by the Cheshire Stork club. Great people.
We then enrolled him in a Catholic School for an all day kindergarten. He is still
there and doing very well, in spite of his Dad.

This is his third year there. The class is mixed with 3-6 year olds. He is the oldest in his class with several who are close in age. It's a really cool little community. He gets to be himself and learn things at his own pace. I can remember trying to show him how to do a simple puzzle when he was very young. He wanted no part of it even though I knew it was something he was bright enough to do. Well when he was darn good and ready to do a puzzle he figured it out in three seconds flat!
He will go to public first grade next year. Windham's schools aren't the best but we will both be involved and make the best of it. There is another Montessori school nearby that goes up through 6th grade but we're stuggling to pay for this year so that absolutely isn't an option. We might be able to ask the Chaplin BOE if he could go there since both DH and I work in the system, but I don't think it would be in our best interests for he and I to be in the same building all day. It's a small school. We'd be tripping over each other. We'll just have to make the best of it. Moving's not an option right now but could be down the road.

I'm lucky to have my mom nearby to help. And his assistant teacher's kids go to the school where I work so she brings him to me most days. Otherwise I'd have to pay for afterschool care.
I guess it's okay that I went OT on my own thread?
I'll get us back on track with the egg chronicles tomorrow. But then I'll go OT again when I post about the windows we're getting for the new coop..

I'm sure he'll do fine. The parents are the most important part of a childs
education. I wish more people understood that.

We were happy to move to Beacon Falls because we like the public schools
here. My mother-inlaw told us about an open house at a Catholic school down
the street from her. We never really considered it. It took me about 30 seconds
after walking in the door to realize it was the school for him. It costs us $5000 a
year but somehow we do it. He get's on and off the bus at my Mother-inlaws house
so that saves us a lot on daycare. I work full time and my wife works 2 to 11PM at
a hospital and goes to Naugatuck Valley CC in the mornings. She'll be an RN in
another couple years. It's a struggle but we do it. I'm not sure how.

Just for the record, the post I made way back when about teachers was a stab
at the public schools political correctness, top heavy beurocracies, indoctrinating
instead of teaching, etc...

No idea how we're doing it either. I'm an aide so I am paid, well, chicken feed, only wouldn't that be nice if it were true since I'm going to be needed A LOT of it soon!
Trust me, most teachers and school employees share concerns about public schools! I keep toying with the idea of going back to school and getting certified and then I rethink it based on my experiences and just say, uh, maybe not. Someday I'll figure out what I want to be when I grow up!
