I also appreciate you posting the photo to include your "chupacabra defense weapon." I have an old Colt 22 pistol that serves this purpose. I'd also be watching that wound, small though it might be...ick.

Have the possum tested, you don't want to have the shots unnecessarily....and you don't want to get rabies. I hear it's FATAL....and why should your wife have to be subjected to the grief of missing you?

possums don't carry rabies so you are OK there.the health dept will not test them.they do carry nasty germs so getting an antibiotic injection might be in order.
i have often gotten my eggs in the dark but may carry a flashlight from now on.

"What animals may be affected by rabies?
All mammals (warm-blooded, furry animals) can be affected by the rabies virus, but it occurs most often among wildlife species such as bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes. Unvaccinated dogs, cats, and livestock also may get rabies. Rabbits, squirrels, opossums, rats, mice, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, chipmunks, and muskrats almost never get rabies. "

There is no grief involved she will be able to buy a new husband not dumb enough to stick his hand in dark boxes.

I was told by a Fish & Game officer in SC that possums have such primitive nervous systems that they die of rabies before they get to the point of biting anyone. Apparently it kills them quickly. They may carry disease, but not rabies.
