El chupacabra is back and bit me (Graphic pic)

I dunno about the rabies or not. But it reminds me of my dentist telling me I didn't need novacaine since she was 'pretty" sure the nerve was dead. Boy WAS she wrong!!

From the CDC's 2008 Compendium on Rabies Control: A person bitten by any wild mammal should immediately report the incident to a health-care provider who, in consultation with public health authorities, can evaluate the need for postexposure prophylaxis (3).
Here is the link so you can learn all you ever wanted to know about rabies control. http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr5702a1.htm
Even
if it is true that possums are less likely to transmit the infection, I have never heard possum exposures being treated any differently than exposure from any other animal. At the least, you should inform your doctor and local health department of the bite and take their advice on how to protect yourself, not ours.

Now, that would call for a clean change of undershorts.

Ok, the darn possums love cat food as well, a few years ago, I shot 9 during the winter, a bit after dark, I would go out and check the barn cats and the possums would be eating the cats food, the one animal I do not feel bad about shooting, (the possums) I am new here, although not new at age of 68, hubby and I live in town, but have our house for sale so we can get to the country, have our eye on 4 acres, one way or the other, this ole country gal is going to get out of town and have my chickens, I learn so much new stuff from you all./ He has never lived in the country and I have only lived in town the last 7 years we have been married, yuk, I need space and country air. want my banty chicks again.

I'm afraid of snakes. And I've also had rats steal eggs. I always use a flashlight to inspect the nest before I stick my hand in there!!!!!!

I really hate to admit this publicly, but I don't have much trust in the health department. I'd be flushing with saline water and treating it like any other puncture wound. I guess if I ever get rabies, it can just kill me.

GO to the doctor! if it broke the skin at all you have been exposed many kinds of bacteria, animals the feed on carcasses of other animals are the worst!! Any mammal can be a carrier of rabies. I work for MSU and we have to be vaccinated for Rabies to work on cows and horses. even if its not infected with Rabies and infection from a bite wound is nasty and VERY painful
