Elderly Woman Taunted and Bullied by the Teens she was Supervising

I'm not going to be tempted into an argument about a banned subject by an insult about religious freedom. There is as much such freedom where I come from and where I now live as there is anywhere else. I've merely done what I said I would do in the hope that the offending posts will be edited and the thread continue.

Tiananmen Square..........enough said.

I've never been there. And it was nothing to do with the lady on the bus or the banned subject that has been brought into this thread.

There are rather too many generalisations being drawn from one video and a few news reports. Judgements about all kids and adults cannot reasonably made from this story. For every story about a bad kid there's at least one about a good kid.

All that we know is:

1. A woman was taunted on a school bus by some kids. It looked like a very unpleasant episode.

2. She is said to be a monitor but whatever authority she had she didn't use it.

3. The driver didn't intervene.

4. We don't know how she had behaved towards the kids on that trip or previous ones.

5. She will receive a lot of money from donors and, perhaps, the school.

There's more to know about this incident and it still would not be proof that today's kids are evil.

I am offended by the religious comments that have been introduced into this thread and will report the next one that appears. They are against the rules of BYC. Posters get away too often with religious, usually Christian, platitudes and suggestions that people who are not Christian are bad. That's arrogant nonsense but when someone offers to disagree, there's a slap on the wrist from the Mods. Go be religious elsewhere, please.
So, how does one have a discussion about how to raise kids and what is wrong with a particular group, without discussing all the why's and wherefore's that comes into a person's mind. Especially in a country where, at one time, not so long ago, discipline and toeing the line were based on principles written in a book called the Bible.
The scripture that says,"Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction will drive it far from him," stands as true today as it did 500 years ago. All humans are born with a natural bent toward selfishness. I. I, me, me. You don't have to teach a child to take what's not theirs. You do have to teach them that taking someone else's stuff, without permission is stealing....Same with physical and verbal abuse, as was used against the bus driver.
As I noted earlier, socialogists are graduating from colleges in droves, and yet, despite of all the highminded intentions of making the world a better place, they have recieved their instructions from people who scoff at religious teaching as some antiquated, backward kind of thinking....Yes, professors full of arrogance, pride, contempt and disdain for anyone who doesn't buy into their new way of thinking....Lots of sins there that need some working on, that I can see/

I have a sister who learned the Dr. Spock way of raising kids....Oh, she wasn't going to punish her children, like her daddy did. Well, the boy ended up being a hellion for about 5 years. She turned into a screamer and ended up using the police to do what she could have done with a strap or a switch, if she'd done it when he was 3 or 4, instead of waiting until he was 12.

Sociology includes the study of religions (there are more than just one of them, FYI) as one of the most significant societal institutions.... And I have always found my professors to be very open minded and supportive of religious views.... what colleges have you been hanging out at Royd? Must be the college of: "Take a sensationalized account of a radical school or professor and paint all higher learning with that brush."

In all of my years of education (and I have many under my belt), I have yet to hear a college professor degrade any religion, or suggest that any religious view is wrong or should be stopped... I have heard my professors encourage students to be open to the views of others, including those whose views come from a religious standpoint. My professors for the most part have been open, encouraging, non-judgemental and thoughtful people.... all excellent qualities that I have found lacking in many of the attitudes of some religious or conservative people... I guess that shows us all that religiosity in itself does not always safegaurd against sinfullness.

The rules I just read say religuos topics are discouraged not banned like discussing animal rights groups and cockfighting.

Many times the mods will allow the mention of different religions if they are related to the topics and people act decent and not get offended but allow others to have their say, disagree and leave it at that. What gets a thread closed is usually arguing or bickering. One thing that is repeated on this forum is people need thick skin and that applies whether you are discussing killing a predator or any other subject.

I will tell you what I get told by the mods, if you do not like the conversation on a thread move on. This thread is about disobedient kids and what if anything that works to help them and what is taught in the Bible about disciplining kids does work, has worked and will work, maybe not for your kids but it has for mine and many others that I know and if I were to get offended which I am not or do not get "offended" by someones opinion whether they say it as fact or just opinion I certainly would not threaten other posters with shutting down a topic for some personal satisfaction.

Punkadoodle and I disagree on a lot of things but we do have enough respect for each others opinions that we do not make threats.... however wrong she is.
