Elector PSP like clay - any tips for thinning?

I found this thread because I’m dealing with my own clay mass of PSP . I ended up cutting open the bottle and putting it in a mason jar. Now I measure out the product in a very small bowl & whisk it before fully diluting it. Totally annoying for the price!!!

Yes, it IS totally annoying!! In fact, I recently had to treat my birds & coop with spray permethrin - once a week for three weeks - & during the second round, I thought about that E. PSP, & just grinded my teeth!! Maybe if a friend or two with chickens lived close enough I'd try going in on a bottle, but I'm just afraid to pay that price again, with the small flock I have.
Do you remember about how long ago you purchased it? I did contact the company & complain to someone, but because it was too long after purchase, they wouldn't replace it. I wish I would have realized it shouldn't have been that bad / thick much earlier, because apparently I could have returned it.

I feel the same!! Can I ask where you purchased? I bought mine 22 months ago, but it was hard to work with from day one. I also should have returned it- but I’m in Canada & ship to a box in the US, so it’s a pain to come and go. And now the border is closed OF COURSE! I just dealt with my clay mess last week to deal with lice. UGHHHH

Thanks for the heads up on this one! Happily we've never bought it, and will stick with permethrin instead.
Too bad the company doesn't have this information in their packaging, or do they? In the very fine print somewhere, maybe?

Ugh... I bought mine online, through a livestock supply store in California. I would have sworn the name of the place had Santa Cruz in it, but I just checked online and I'm finding nothing. I bought it there because the price and shipping were lower than some others I'd found.

Anyway, the place I contacted was the company that makes it, Elanco. There, I spoke with someone who took notes on my experience and said that there have been complaints over the issue, but not a high number of them. That's the person who asked when I'd purchased it, and then said it was too long (could have been 1.5 yrs, or 2 yrs) to be returned. He told me it *might* have sat on a shelf for too long of a time when it was sold to me. Grrrr!!!!
Because it smelled like clay when I got it, I had no reason to believe there was something wrong when I first used it. I figured it would just take a little muscle. Later, when I went to use it again, it needed not muscles but heavy machinery the likes of which a homeowner would not possess!

Too bad they don't is Right!
Unless they've begun to put it on the label since I bought mine, No. I searched and searched, and the person at Elanco (the company who makes or distributes it) verified as much!

Hello!
If anyone has ever used this product and has experienced it gunking up Really bad - so much like clay that it's impossible to shake the majority of the product - and you've been able to solve the problem, can you give me some tips please?
Of course, I didn't take out the bottle until tonight, Friday, to get ready to treat the chickens for mites... too late to contact the company. I bought this over a year ago - possibly 2 - so it's beyond a return date. I located information by a rep on Amazon (from whom I did Not purchase the product) stating that the product tends to solidify when it settles, so it should be shaken up every couple months - information that appears NOwhere on the label or website. (The rep wrote this in response to 2 negative reviews complaining about this issue.) The suggestion was to pour out and set aside about 2 oz to make it less difficult to shake the rest, and then return that amount to the bottle. I've done that and it's Impossible to turn the product back into a liquid by shaking.
I'm so mad! I'm hoping someone has had some success solving this problem. Thank you!!!

I just worked on my Elector PSP with a metal skewer and got it to a creamy texture. Mine is several years old. Then I measured it for my sprayer with a teaspoon (1 tsp. = 4.9 ml) into 64 oz. ( 1/2 gallon), shake like crazy, and it is ready to go. I love this stuff cause it keeps the girls bug free for a long time and no egg withdrawal, but it takes much longer to use then Permethrin.
I may do a sit bath first to clean butts, and then after thorough spraying I usually need to use a blow dryer before I put them back outside if it is not warm weather.
I routinely use Permethrin for my old rooster and the older girls, cause its so easy, and EPSP for the young layers for mites and lice.
