Has anyone else used a electric fence around their duck run to keep out predators? I realized my ducks were not using their house to sleep at night they were staying in their pond. I had a electric fence around the pen but found out the charger was not working. I remembered my dad had told me about a older way of using a light bulb as a electric fence so I tried it. Yesterday when I went to go feed my ducks I found a raccoon draped across the fence wire dead. This morning I found my first duck egg in the duck house after I finally locked them up in it incase another predator actually got in with them. I know this is kinda long and I am looking for any feedback on the use of electric fence around the duck pen.

I do know some members use the Premier1 electric fencing hopefully they will reply.
I just have a 100 watt light bulb tied to my fence wire and to a extension cord. When the fence is grounded the bulb coms on and let’s me know that something is on it. It also adds a load to the fence so that it will hurt more when it is touched. I noticed that unless you get a fairly large charger they will not go through some furs.

But what happens when a duck sticks it's bill to the fence trying to eat on the other side mine do that or lays up against it. I'm not sure about electric fencing unless you had an inner fence also. But I hope others will weigh in who have electric.

I have it off during the day when my ducks are out of the duck house . It is on at night when the predators are out around my place.

We used to use electric fencing years ago for turtles. The only trouble we had was it shorting out if anything touched it, like a weed. I'm glad you started this thread because I'm thinking about using it again for my chickens. I'll check out the Premier 1.

I have been keeping my ducks within a 145cm high electric fence for about a year now and I haven't had any issues. They don't get locked up in a coop at night, but the fence does the job and I haven't had any fatalities, despite living in an area with a large population of foxes.

Me and my wife have been thinking about an electric fence around our duck run. I love innovative ideas old school or not. How do you make an electric fence from a 100 watt bulb?! Please educate me!
