Electric Fencing facts... For poultry

Great perinese mountain dog or however its spelt are supposed to be the best of the best chicken dogs, from what i remember, they are expensive, espaielly in poulty mag classifieds. My neighbor has one, it barks at eevrything. But I just went to the pound and got a mutt puppy who now looks like golden retriever mix, so far so good. Dont want to keep them hungry or too fat. There is a fine line lol.

Huh. I did not know that the Pyrenees makes a good chicken dog. My friend has one that really likes to carry chickens around. She does not kill them but she will take them with her where ever she goes! I have a mutt so if I ever do that I will have to teach him! Thanks so much!

I have a few here and let me tell you all of them are great guardian dogs but there is one that is no doughty the best bird guardian i have ever had, she place her self between herself and the birds in any area she feels a threat .. there is a certain bark she makes that gets the attention of the other LGD and Pitt bull that gives her backup when she needs it.

By nature she is a guardian but i have spent years working with her and the other dogs so they have learned what is needed to keep things running smooth and all the birds safe from both ground and air predators.

I got my first Great Pyrenees free because at 5 months she was not a guardian dog, Folks have no clue sometimes , my second Pyrenees was also a re home, she was 3 when we got her, she has also made a great guardian but it took months to teach her to stay on the property cause she was re homed several times before we got her and just did not know where she belonged.
my 3rd LGD is a great Pyrenees/Anatolian , he is a big ol lug but a great guardian dog with intimidating size with a bark to go with it he cost 100 dollars .

They are not expensive around here you can get them for 100 to 200 dollars all day long

This is my Critter gitter she is bred to catch hogs but we use her to catch tresspassing critters and she never miss, one grab and she will shake them to death, don't matter is it is a snake , coon, possium, they don't leave alive.

I figured the topic was dicussed here many times, it is a poultry forum... but after reading through some of the earlier posts, seeing dogs were such a problem and going through electric fences, I figured I would put the facts out there, fresh like. Im sure more than one person looked at the top thread with there question, got it answered and ran to tractor supply to add a few more strands to the old fence. Without spending half a day on the search engine.
As far as tethering roosters on nylon cords... A very large group of chickens that are known for there beautiful color varietys,differant stuctures and beauty have aggresive and indominatable traits. aggresivness is not their fault however, its the traits that were bred into them for 100's of years. I am a preserver of these gamefowl American and Oriental. Instead of having them looked up in coops and cages 24/7 to prevent aggresive behavior. Excercise, they get rotated onto fresh grass, they get regular visits from the hens and biddies and those tail feathers dont get so battered scraping them against walls and wire, day in and day out.. And for the small varietys I keep, an eight foot circle is like a football field. Your choice, being locked up all day for being a potential brawler, or being tethered by your leg in the village square, were all the action is a sometimes you can get a piece, hen action. lol

So they're show roosters...cool...I can see why you wouldn't keep a bunch boys free ranged or cooped....yard roosters!
