**Electric skillet method-*Open for further questions-starting page 26

I don't remember what the cord on an electric skillet looks like, or what gauge it is, so proceed with caution. However, we use a tabletop lamp dimmer to control the temperature of the under-tank heating pad in our snake's tank. They are very cheap and as long as you are monitoring the temperature carefully, work very well.

Plug the dimmer into the wall outlet and then plug the heating pad (or skillet) into the dimmer. Adjust the dimmer as need be. There is a model that clamps onto the lamp cord itself, but I haven't liked those as much. This at least is easily reversible.

Good luck!

Day 14 was yesterday! We candled last night and found 10 of these:
Day14goodegg.jpg

Then I found this:
Day14-bloodring.jpg

Is this a blood ring? I'm not finding anything else in there. I also have one that the air sac moves around as I turn the egg. Couldn't find anything in that one, although this one had shown a good start before. Would you say these are both bad or is there a possibility for them? If they are diffentetly bad then I will take them out. If there's hope I will leave them in.

I can't tell by the photos here but a blood ring will be a ring of blood along the shell encircling it. The bloodring means the embryo died and the blood drained out of the veins. If you see nothing at all int he one with the moving aircell on day 14 it isn't going to do anything now. You can take them out.

Good luck on the next 7 days! My eggs are due wednesday!

Wow. What type of light are you using. That is an amazing first photo.
The second looks all too familiar I'm afraid...

Thanks for keeping us all updated on this journey.

I know the photo isn't great. It is a real shadowy ring. I don't see any diffent chick the way that I could the others.

I'm using my DH's Milwaukee 18 volt light.

It has the rechargable batteries like his drills and stands on the battery. That gives me my hands free and a really bright light. I had to keep warning my DD's that I was removing the egg and my hands from it so they would look away, otherwise you end up with that momentary blindness-not good when handling eggs!

My oldest DD (9 1/2 yrs) took the photos. I set the camera and she did a really good job of taking the pics.

BTW-I'm watching for the skillet posts but, if I miss one when posted please feel free to PM me about it and include a link to your thread so I can keep track of it.

I always judge mine by the movement. The little chick should be bouncing around. If I don't see some kind of movement,I figure the egg is no good. Having said that,I don't cull anything until day 14and then only the obvious clear ones and those with blood rings.

I really wanna find an electric skillet and try this. I am gonna have to go thrifting when the stimulus money gets here...and yardsaling...
Thanks for sharing with us! Good luck with your babies! I'm on day 12...13 babies...I took out the empty eggs.

I've been to two garage sales this year (season just getting going here) and both had one. They both had the metal lid though. DH doesn't know it but one came home with me!
