Just updating from yesterday. 2 more chickens dead from, not a coon, must be smaller,cuz there was a small hole underneith the fence. Cupcake & trisket RIP may they enjoy heaven.

You need to set a live trap-raccoon size will catch a skunk, a raccoon, a possum (plus chickens and cats). And keep it set. Once you get rid of the initial culprits-and there may be more than you ever expected-you will still need to be vigilant but losses will decrease. I set out to catch a racoon and caught five. plus a possum. plus barn cats and chickens. They will never stop stalking your chickens, you will never eliminate losses but you can definitely decrease it but it is a never ending job.

Start trapping and shooting now. Baiting them in and going for a wholesale slaughter would be good. Try to tree them, much easier to shoot.

do you have other pets in the area, yours or otherwise?

i would look at poison, with that many. my chickens would be wiped out by the time i trapped all those!!

don't know if it is legal or not, i do not condone it and have never done it, but do know people who have marinated anchovies/sardines in radiator fluid. again, don't know the legality.

i have seen people say it's bad, other animals will eat the dead coons. however, then those same people will tell me it's the circle of life when they eat my chickens. i say using poison is also a circle of life, just instead of my chickens being food, the coons are food for some other animal that will be food for another animal that will be foo.........

I wouldn't choose poison, personally. Too many chances something else unintended would die.
