I just picturing that scene in Jurassic park, where they use the goat to bait the t-Rex.Yeas it is. But sometimes you have to be able to catch a predator from killing the rest of your flock
Oh goodie something else for me to worry about. Ya know most of us go through A LOT to keep our flocks safe and healthy. What BS.It is very much illegal but some people don't care
I know some people like that. Sometimes it is just what they are used to, and anything different is icky. You know what I don’t get, is the ppl who go eww not fresh eggs, I only eat store bought. HUH? Because store bought eggs don’t come from a chickens booty?
Silkies, duccles, orpingtons, EEs, OEs, polish, silkies mixes, I'm sure I'm missing some. Lots of supposedly friendly breeds that I tried really hard to make friendly...they still run if I try to come close enough to touchWhat breeds do you have? Some are much more skittish and less interested in humans then others
Here’s some info for you: I can not eat store bought eggs. It causes severe stomach pain. For years I thought I was allergic to eggs. Nope. Fresh don’t bother me in the least. Interesting huh?I know some people like that. Sometimes it is just what they are used to, and anything different is icky.
But I would say eggs from a backyard flock can be better (especially fresher) than store-bought eggs, or they can be worse (especially dirtier, sometimes stored improperly or for too long). Commercial egg producers have to follow various rules, so their eggs will be pretty consistent in terms of quality and cleanliness. I prefer an egg gathered today from a nice clean nestbox over an egg from the store, but I will choose the store-bought egg over a manure-covered egg that sat in the coop for 3 days because someone didn't get around to picking it up for that long. Unfortunately, I have seen almost exactly that situation a few times.
Higher quality? It comes from booty for goodness sake.I sell eggs but I definitely have met my share if people that won't eat fresh eggs. I kinda get it, they think store eggs are higher quality.
Interesting indeed. That would be a very good reason to avoid store eggs and use home-raised fresh ones! Here’s some info for you: I can not eat store bought eggs. It causes severe stomach pain. For years I thought I was allergic to eggs. Nope. Fresh don’t bother me in the least. Interesting huh?
My father is like that. He'll eat them if someone else cooks them but won't eat them himself. Meanwhile I greatly prefer my eggs over storebrought. I brought one carton to hold me over until my girls started laying 'cause I finally ate through my backstock. I went for the certified humane eggs and even those were nowhere near as good as mine. I don't get it personally, but to each their own igI know some people like that. Sometimes it is just what they are used to, and anything different is icky.
