ELI5 Why do so many ppl treat chickens expendable??

Pics
No. My chickens have healthy immune systems. Exposure to the environment makes healthy chickens

I would personally rather live free and die young than live my entire life in a cage. My chickens handle predators fine, regardless
Well supposedly chicks develop a good immune system the more exposure to the outside.
I’m curious how do your chickens handle predators?

Mine would be gone in days, we have a lot of predators on our property regularly. They have more then big enough pens to live happily

Days?! Maybe 24 hours over here in the country. I’ve got a lovely huge hawk that just does laps waiting for his chance. Not to mention the raccoons and coyote I KNOW are behind my chicken yard.

There's a busy road in front of my house, I do have a neighbor who does have large dogs and we do have owls that drop by every now and then. I do have an acre to work with, but an acre isn't large enough to ensure they won't wander off into trouble. They have a fairly large run and are allowed to free range for an hour or 2 a day. My birds are happy with this

We've seen multiple coyotes, bobcats, and gave a hawk that lives on our property oh and the eagles. I give them days because there's 32 of them and 9 roosters....

Fight or flight

If a predator gets anywhere close at night they simply fly away, and if a predator shows up during the day they fight to whatever extent is necessary to either remove the threat or get away. I've watched a game hen tackle a fox directly in the face before. In fact she's done the same to me too

Lots of chickens are fully capable of handling themselves in rugged environments

If they're happy, that's what matters I suppose

Idk how well my bantam rooster would fare. He’d try for sure, but these coyotes are big and plentiful.
Although I saw with my own eyes 2 hens and rooster take down a hawk attacking another hen.

I've had random chickens join my flock before and it doesn't bother me at all.
Where in this world are you located?
Please add your general geographical exact location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!
