re: "SSS". The last letter is the one that people always forget. "SHUT UP!" If you're going to SSS, shut yer trap. Don't post about it on BYC, don't tell people at work, don't talk about it. BYC isn't as anonymous as people assume and inquiring neighbors may just find out what happened to their "sweet, non-violent, never leaves our property" Fido.

re: gun ownership. The right to bear arms includes the right not to bear them. I choose the latter and am happy with that decision. DBF wants a gun (we live together in my house). As long as he's DBF living in my house and not DH living in our house, no gun will ever cross my threshold.

Well to start with I only have two arms. so they think, some of my guns came from my great grandather was a cheokee (spelled wrong) but any way my brother got the rest of the relicks and the ones I could not store safetly. There is another 57.

all family related some you(I don't think) You can get ammo for unless you make it yourself. We are not crazy, just believe in defending your family and what you work for. We talk but you can only talk so much. But I agree with Mr Boyd house holds you don't think have guns, sorry they do and by chance parents don't know. You just never know. But I will protect

17?!?!?! how many arms do you have?

Hubby turned his rifle in when we had a baby, now that we're moving out of the city and live in a coyote heavy area, we'll re-arm again. Now we also have 5 Swords, 3 sets of throwing daggers, a set of throwing cards and a coin that's shiny.

No worries, I was attempting to make a joke, you said 17 and I pictured some sort of octupi like arrangement (too many video games perhaps).

I'm silly like that.

Whatever side of this you are on, I propose that you do not, repeat DO NOT, know what you will do when you are watching some loose dog tear your hens apart and blood and body parts are flying. And if it's more than one dog, you are INSANE if you try to grab either dog's collar. When dogs "pack up", they are different creatures than just someone's baby Fuzzy Wuzzy that skipped over his family's inadequate fence for a day of chicken-chasing fun. They are dangerous and packs of them roam here all the time. I guarantee you that if one is killing my birds, it had to dig under or crawl over my fence, with somewhat of an effort to get in. It wasnt just "passing through" and saw the tempting chicken dinners. I for one am not an idiot or insane and won't attempt to corral a strange dog who is in a killing frenzy. And I won't pull up a lawn chair and watch the carnage, either. If you want to do that, that's your business, have at it, but no one will tell me how to handle it on my property. Whether I SSS or tell the owner, if I even know who that is, depends on the situation. If the people are volatile and possibly dangerous/vengeful, I may not tell them, but trust me, except for two dogs in my neighborhood, both of whom are always corralled, I have no idea who all the loose dogs belong to because they tend to travel long distances. Most have no collars much less rabies tags and we have lately had many, many cases of rabies here!

This section is not to judge the methods anyone else uses. If the remark isn't positive or supportive, leave it out. I have had to post those rules you are all supposed to be reading that are stickied at the top of P&P, several times over the last few days. Please re-familiarize yourself with them today and don't make us lock this thread.

Not ONE gun has ever killed ANYONE! Its the idiot behind it!

Before you bring in the kids who kill kids do some research. When I took my then 13 year old daughter to her hunter safety course, in Washington, the instructor presented the official statistics. Out of over 50,000 kids he had personally taught in a long career, NOT one kid had been involved with ANY sort of gun incident. Out of the rest who have never been TAUGHT how to handle, care for, and use a firearm, you know those results.
Guns made this a free country, and will continue to do so.
