Whoo-hoo to the OP!

Thank you for asking this question. This pretty much sums it up. I have ALWAYS wanted to know and just hadn't researched it. We don't have roosters so...no immediate need here.

TELL ME, I'm not the only one who's actually bent down to try and get a closer look at what was going on under those feathers why they're making chicken whoopy! Right?!

Now if you really want to get gross, I believe I read on here about how a human can "collect" the semen from the rooster in order to fertilize a hen artificially.

Yes, there is information on here about collecting semen from a roo and then inseminating a hen. That information was per my request for me who owns a pet roo who wasnt mating with hens but preferred mating with shoes, etc. He finally got interested in chickens, thank goodness. Im expecting babies from his mating with his daughter Mid April.

I consider myself an ummm "worldly" person. And I had a Dad who had chickens - and as God is my witness - I had no idea chickens actually did what they do to get chicks until very very recently - I thought the rooster did something to the egg after it was out. Boy did I feel silly when I got the "bird" portion of the birds and the bees well well well well past my wonder years. Kudos to the original poster for asking the question and getting us all scientifically educated!
