I have some tufted buff geese , Love them, but am going to get a few more different breed of geese, and am trying to figure out which type,
anyone raise both types? which do you prefer and why?

is pilgrim geese hard to get to reproduce ? and emdems a lot easier? I do have kids who love the tufted buff, also thought about the tufted romans but afraid they might fly off.. the hatchery I want to get the geese from only allows you to buy pairs or your allowed a trio of emdems .

I have regular American Buff -- my kids love them. I almost got Pilgrims though because they have similar personalities. Now, I kind of wish I had gotten Pilgrims in the beginning as then I could tell for sure who was male and who was female. But, we love the Buffs so they are staying. If I ever get more geese I will be getting Pilgrims since we love the Buff personality and then I'll know what sexes I have . . .

I have Pilgrims and I love this breed. I don't have another breed to compare to but before getting my geese I heard all sorts of horror stories about how mean geese are. Totally not true of Pilgrims, they absolutely LOVE my goat and don't give any of my poultry any trouble. I really like that I will be able to tell my goslings apart at hatch. No need to sex vent, I will be able to sell goslings and not have to worry about giving the wrong sex.

Hi,
I have troulouse and chinese grey and my females are very gentle. My gander is a chinese and he is aggressive but after catching him a few times he has learned to stay his distance. I love the troulouse as they are very gentle. I just clip one of my gander's wings and all of my females stay in with him even though they can fly. I have also tried to get my geese to roam outside of my fenced area and they won't leave the yard. I am guessing it is because they are leary of unexplored areas. Clipping one wing doesn't hurt them at all ond you only have to take a few inches off of the very end of the feathers to unbalance them enough to get them to stay in. Good luck.

I would have to go for true Embdens and they're such impressive birds. I should stop myself but would love to get a pair this year and have the opportunity to get a pair from an excellent bloodline.

I think metzer farms are supposed to have some above average embdens , Its just so hard to choose

Is pilgrim geese hard to get to reproduce and embdens easier I wonder?

If you decide to get embdens get them from Holderreads. My parents had some hatchery embdens, and they weren't particularly nice, but I have some Embdens from Holderreads and some I raised from the original pair last year, and they are much, much larger and much more even tempered. I've had no problems with them so far.

I have an Embden x Pilgrim, and at only 5 months old, she is a character. She is boss of all the animals on our property. Very great goose.
