I candled some eggs I filled up my hovabator with and a lot of them had the blood ring. My temp is stable at 100 and humidity runs betwen 50-55%. What causes this? I dont put in dirty eggs and it is the first setting of eggs for the year with it. I cant wait to get my cabinet completed!

Sorry, newbie.... am I supposed to wash my eggs before setting? I thought washing them removed some sort of protective layer that eggs naturally have. I've been saving eggs for 6 days... is it too late to wash the ones with smears?

you are right about the washing, you don't want to do that. However, if they are really dirty, you can try to get it off by taking a damp paper towel and trying to get the dirst/smears off without wiping the whole egg off. If i am collecting eggs to incubate and I get 1 or 2 that are really dirty, I just don't even mess them.

how bad are the "smears" on them?
