broody girls eggs are due to hatch tomorrow. just went to coop and she's up, maybe just stretching her legs, but maybe she's quit.

plugged in incubator (have never used and don't know how) do I add water for hatching this late in the game or leave it dry?

worst problem is that one egg has pipped and there are tiny ants all over it and going int that hole.

one of the eggs had broken a week ago and had gotten all over the others. the ants are attracted to that

any ideas of salvaging these babies?

Get them in the incubator, yes you need water, moreso at hatch than any other time, especially with a pipped egg. You need to fill the water wells. I'm guessing you probably don't have a hygrometer? Not much you can do about the ants in the one now, just make sure you thoroughly clean the bator after. I'd wipe off any goo from the others with a damp cloth before adding to the bator. You need the temps 99.5 forced air or 101 still air.

Mama setting again. I changed shavings, added De and wiped eggs.

Ok. She's given up again and eggs are cold. Warming up incubator. Are the eggs a loss at this point? Ants aren't back but eggs cold.

I wouldn't write them off. At this point they are producing some of their own body heat. I'd get them in the incubator and give them a couple days. Can you see any movement from the one that has pipped?

I HEARD PEEPING!!!! I was putting the eggs into the incubator and heard peeping!!! OK, I cad no idea they even peeped in the egg.

The pip hasn't gotten any bigger and I'm 99% sure one egg is rotten as I can smell it through shell. (uodate- went ahead and crocked that one and it was rotten)

They are in incubator now. Fingers crossed for at least two. I don't wanna raise a lonely chick

I think there is one more rotten but i'm afraid to break it. what would you do?

Thank you so much for helping me with this!!!

When you hear them peep from inside the shell, it means that they have internally pipped, so within the next 24 hours you should see an external pip.
If it doesn't smell, I'd leave it alone, if it smells I'd get it out of there.
You have water in the incubator and brining up the humidity, right?

Yes, water in :)

The one has an external pip.

I'll smell the eggs one more time.....

Decided to trust my nose and it wasn't green and gross like the first, but yellow sludge in that one. Looked like semi cooked scrambled egg.

I candled the remaining tow that haven't pipped and saw movement in both!!! Looks like we may end up with three if they actually hatch.

That'd be great. Good luck and keep the humidity up in there and the temps about 99/100. Hope you see little ones soon!
