Hello backyard chickeners... I got a new chicken weeks ago and she is lovely and loving the place! SHe eats/poops well, she likes running around... She's a very strong girl. However, yesterday, I saw that her crop was full and still is. I called the local vet and she said to massage the crop and to give her some stuff; but im so scared she will die anyways... DO you guys have tips? Or have emptied crops before??

It is rather firm but kinda moves around? Thats how I would describe it! I was massaging it and it was firm, but would squish a bit
How big is it?
What does her poop look like?
Have you ever de-wormed her with Safeguard or Valbazen?
When did she lay her last egg?
How old is she?
What breed?
What age?

What “stuff” did the vet tell you to give her?
A full crop should feel like a beanbag. Full semi hard yet it gives with slight pressure.
Take all the food away tonight after it’s dark. Do not feed any thing until you feel her crop first thing in the
Morning.
If it’s still full in the morning bring her inside and crate her so you can monitor her. If it’s a organic blockage you could give her a NON stimulant laxative....is that what the vet gave you?

Could she have eaten, digested, then eaten more? Is she acting at all lethargic?

It's not unusual for chickens to keep their crops pretty full throughout the day...
I dont think shes acting letargic... sometimes she sits on the floor but so does my other hen , aside from that shes always moving and exploring the garden!

She is pretty big, normal size for a hen. Her poop looks absolutely normal (According to the poop chart here in BYC) but today at night was a little more liquid. I havent dewormed her but i will tomorrow! She hasn´t layed eggs yet, and shes young I dont know the age!
