Emergency Help Needed - Peking Duck Attacked by Coyote on 4/12/2020

Hello all, I wanted to provide an update. Kiwi is still here with us and getting better slowly it seems. We removed her stitches last night and she took a bath and nibbled at the sight pretty aggressively. I'm sure its itchy! She is still having issues raising her head up and is still a bit unsteady on her feet but is getting more coordinated. She got to visit her family this weekend as the weather was beautiful and she spent the day outside but she gets winded very quickly. I was never able to do a feeding tube so she has lost a lot of weight so we are working to get her fat and happy again! We are taking it one day at a time, luckily with this pandemic I cant travel for work so I have time to nurture her hopefully back to 100%.

That's great to hear! Have you been able to get her to eat at all? I know if it were a chicken I would put nutridrench in her water for some extra vitamins, but I am not sure if that is usually used for ducks

Writing to give you all an update on Kiwi. She has recovered as much as we think she will as its been months. She surpriselingly is able to keep up with the rest of the flock for the most part and is back to laying eggs. It taken all this time to recover. She is still unable to lift her head all the way, we assume there was muscle damage from the coyote attack but she can still rummage and root in the grass for bugs which she loves. She also can't preen herself as well but we help her out once a week when we keep everyone else out the pond so she can have some uninterrupted time to clean herself up. Also a down side to this is she isn't able to redistribute her own oils very well so she gets water logged pretty easy. Other then that she's doing ok and we are so thankful she survived!
