Emergency Help!

It looks like it's 80 in Huntsville today. If your chicks are 2 weeks old, that's not too far off from where they should be now. It's only supposed to get to 65 tonight, but I agree with bringing them in. I'm totally new so I don't know if that's really too cold for baby chicks. Based on what I've seen from my little drama queens, I'm sure you'll hear them complain about the cold LONG before they're really in distress. I'd suggest putting them in a smaller box tonight instead of their normal brooder and cover the sides and most of the top with towels or blankets for insulation. The smaller area will mean less air for their little bodies to heat.

Make sure you use rocks from a dryland area, not marsh/creek area. Some stones, such at sandstone, can hold water, and get interesting when heated.

Try putting rocks in a fire or bricks they used to be bed warmers in the old days be sure to wrap them in towels and keep the brooder covered.

I'm sorry that you have to go through what you are going through you are in our thoughts Keep them safe.

Nicolla, I am so sorry that you are going through this. My thoughts are with you and everyone else that has been hit by this disaster! There are good suggestions here already, I just wanted to add my support.

I'd be carrying them too, myself, but gosh the idea of them in bed scares me! It would be so easy to accidentally crush them while you are asleep. I have a friend that lost their lovebird this way.

I concur with heating stones or bricks then wrapping them in towels. Also, you are in our prayers!
