Emergency! Intestines or yolk sac?? Please help!!

An update: the mass coming out of the baby seems to have decreased in size noticably in the last hour. I have it in a box lined with papertowels with heat. I put plastic under the intestines/yolk because I noticed they were sticking to the paper towel and I didn't want it to try and move and get stuck and make the problem worse. I'm not confident it will make it. But I want to wait a little longer to see what happens. The baby is just mostly sleeping, but still alive. A little bit of yellow fluid has leaked out making me hope it may just be a yolk sac. PXL_20230729_003619693.jpg

I'm so very sorry you are going through this. :hugs It does look like intestines, but hoping I'm wrong as I know you want to give it a chance.

I've had a couple hatch like that, that I've needed to cull. It is very sad, but I don't like to see them suffer. I wrap the chick in a paper towel and then in one, swift sure motion pull and turn the head to dislocate it. The head actually comes completely off and it dies instantaneously. Covering it with paper towel is solely for my benefit as its easier for me not to see the chick as I'm doing it.

Our baby looks like this now. Still mostly just sleeping he chirps when he's too hot or cold and I adjust the heat and then he goes back to sleep. What does everyone think? It's been about 3 hours since I found him and took the first pictures. He's still moving around and stuff.

I'm sorry about its dead mother too. Do you have any idea what happened?
Best I can tell is a large snake tried to eat her babies. There were only 2 she was sitting on. She must've fought back and gotten killed. She wasn't mangled, bleeding, or missing a significant amount of feathers. The other egg was missing completely so I assume the snake ate it, and all the commotion knocked this baby out of his egg possibly prematurely. He had fallen on the ground about 3.5 feet from his nest and was sitting on the ground in the coop alone for who knows how long. I'm honestly surprised he's alive at all.

Update: it's been about 10 hours since I found him and posted those original pictures. He's still alive and doesn't seem to be suffering. The sac has dried up to a raisin. He doesn't seem to be fading or anything, but he still is sleeping a lot. He pooped twice last night, albeit very smallt watery poops (no blood tho and the colors looked normal) PXL_20230729_080403779.jpg I'm still shocked he made it through the night. Does this change anyone's opinion about the mass being intestines vs yolk sac?

It looks like both intestines and yolk sac to me. Perhaps the sucking in of the yolk that the chick's body does, is also sucking in the intestinal bit? Or the navel might be closing and cutting it off

I had a chick with yolk sac hanging out and what I thought was also intestinal tract and I didn't think it would make it. Over a week, the yolk was absorbed and the rest of the material dried up like a raisin, but didn't drop off for about 3 weeks. It did and the chick is thriving now.

I put vetericyn on it to kill any bacteria.

Is it eating and drinking yet?

Maybe add some electrolytes to the water and some vitamins.

Good luck with your little chick.

Should I try to remove this thing by tying a string and cutting it?

Thank you for responding so quickly! He is not eating or drinking yet, however since I'm not exactly sure when he hatched, he may still be in that 24hr period where they dont. He seems kinda lethargic. He moves around, but by hobbling and not walking. He chirps when hes unhappy. He doesn't open his eyes very much and after a bit of activity his head droops down again.
What is vetericyn and where do I get it? I've put Neosporin on the navel twice now.
