my chicken was egg bound up for 2 days trying to push egg out (she’s 6 months now, I believe it’s her first egg) last night gave her a warm epson salt bath she didn’t lay it overnight, gave her another bath saw some videos where you can luber up with Vaseline or vegetable oil. Put that on and while she was pushing she tore the muscle and didn’t stop pushing until it came out. She tore at least an 1”. Now she’s Just laying in her spot with water next to her and food. Not sure what to do no vets look at chickens around me. Is this the end for my chicken or can she recover?

Welcome To BYC

I'm sorry to hear about your pullet.

You mention a torn muscle, is there any tissue exposed or coming out of the vent?
Or, did the vent tear, like it's got an injury?

Is she able to poop?

Photos are always helpful so we can a better idea of what you are seeing.

If something is torn, then keep it cleaned with a little saline, then apply triple antibiotic ointment or similar to keep the tissue moist.

She may be exhausted, but it's important to try to get fluids into her. If you have electrolytes that would be good to give. A little sugar water would be o.k. too. Alternate with plain water here and there. Hold a cup to her beak to see if she'll drink for you. Once she's drinking, then a little wet feed, egg or something tasty might entice her to eat a little.

I would also get Calcium into her. Calcium Citrate is best, give 1 tablet daily for a several days. If you don't have that, then give her 1 Tums daily for a few days.

She may have another egg on the way, so be prepared for that.

Hopefully she can recover, you never know. Give her a little time.

She is pooping, not drinking or eating right now. Mostly laying where we put her. She stands up ever so often then lays back down. The vent area is swollen, I don’t see anything sticking out just swollen. In the time leading up to passing the egg she we think was removing her feathers around the vent (we think trying to make it come out) When she was pushing the weird sack like muscle that wraps around the egg came out of her vent. When that happened part of that sack looking thing tore down one side and she push the egg out all at the same time. Freaked me out, she through up and then she’s been just laying there. Water is right next to her. Right now I can not take a pic cause I don’t want to disturb her cause she’s close to the container we have her in. I will try and get a pic on here in the morning.

The swelling is normal after an injury. I am curious to see pictures, Hopefully she will pass another egg without problems in the mean time. That will give us additional info as well.
Thoughts and prayers to you both. Let her rest tonight and you do the same, so we can see what tomorrow brings. :hugs

Just to clarify, it tore, so she is/was bleeding?

If she's unable to drink on her own, then I'd syringe fluids into her. She's needs hydrated. The stress and pushing of it all is exhausting to them, she needs hydration to get past shock.

It sounds like she's quite lethargic and tired, so I would not soak her again unless you feel absolutely necessary, putting them in a bath/water can send them over the edge. You can however take warm compresses of your epsom salts solution and hold it on the vent to help reduce some swelling or apply a little anti-inflammatory cream.

It's important to get the Calcium into her as well.
