Yesterday morning I found my musk of Roy laying in the grass unable to move. I picked her up and brought her into my home I noticed a lot of roosters around her and I thought they might be trying to meet her. I noticed her vent was protruding in a bit runny. I started her on doxycycline and as the day went on she gradually declined. By mid afternoon her breathing became labored and shallow it’s so bad I didn’t think she would make it through the night however she still still holding on. She will not eat or drink anything. I’ve made a charcoal slushy and a gallon of electrolytes which I’ve been giving her little by little, however, every time I use a syringe to give her any liquids her breathing worsens and she gargles more gasping for air. I am trying my best to avoid her airway but nonetheless anytime I give liquid it seems to get worse for a couple minutes. Today I picked her up and urine in a white discharge just ran out of her. Yesterday she laid an egg after I brought her in and she struggled. I have no idea what is wrong. I’ve had a duck with botulism before but there was no protruding of the vent can anybody give me any suggestions

She just died. I’m gutted. I tried to do everything to save her.

I'm very sorry for your loss - from your description, she was in bad shape, and it would have been hard to properly treat her at home, it sounds like you tried the best to your ability. If you are curious to as what may have caused this, consider sending her to your state veterinary necropsy lab, most states charge a minimal fee. Sorry again.

Thank you everyone for your help and kind words. It’s been a sad day. I live on the ocean in Puerto Rico so I buried her on the beach in front of my house with a few other ducks we’ve lost over the years. I like to think I gave her the best little life I could in the few short years while she was here with us. I also take comfort she died with me and wasn’t attacked or killed in any other violent manner. She went the best way possible. Thanks again everyone. 🦆🦆🦆
