Emergency! Rooster sick need help

It's good that he is able to eat/drink on his own. Yogurt is good for probiotics, some chickens won't eat it by itself. You can try stirring it into his feed along with a little water to make a wet mash or stir into his tuna;)

He's a nice big boy!

Hi @Clm300 Welcome To BYC

Can you post some photos of your rooster?
What does his poop look like?
What do you feed?
Any respiratory symptoms?

The craning of the neck could be an indication of a crop problem as suggested by @micstrachan so it's a good idea to make sure it's emptying properly overnight.

The holding/tilting of the head to the side could also be Wry Neck which is a neurological symptom-some causes include vitamin/mineral deficiency, head injury/trauma and diseases like Marek's and Avian Lymphoid Leukosis.

I would offer him poultry vitamins that contain E and B vitamins. See if he will eat a little egg or tuna for you, that will provide some Selenium. Try to keep him hydrated.

Since you started the Tylan50 I would finish the course, but you may want to check your dosage. How much does your rooster weigh? Tylan50 is most effective when given 2-3times a day as well.

Let us know how he's doing.

What would you recommend as far as the dosage goes for Tylan? He a little under 7 lbs normally, but he has lost a little weight in the last couple of days.

Tylan50 has a wide dosage range of 10-40mg/kg given 2-3times a day for 5days in a row.

If you dose him at mid-range (20mg/kg) that would be .10ml per 1pound of weight. So...he's 7lbs (you may want to re-weigh him) that would be .70ml given 2-3times a day. Give it orally since Tylan and multiple injections a day can cause injection site necrosis.

Aww... poor guy! The photos with his head on the table had me quite concerned. I agree it looks like wry neck. We’re the photos of him outside taken later? He looks pretty good there. Best of luck and please keep us posted.

Yes, the table picture was early in the morning and the outdoor pics were a few hours later. As soon as I took him outside he straightened his neck, perked up and seemed to be enjoying himself for about an hour before the lethargy and wry neck symptoms started appearing again. I will definitely post more updates tomorrow.

It seems my Cream Leg Bar rooster is doing better and better each day. The curve of the next and head tilt is getting more and more slight and he is much more animated then he was even yesterday. This evening he crowed for the first time in 5-6 days. The first time he did it he seemed to get really pumped about it and wouldn’t stop crowing for 3-4 min straight. I have switched up the dosage of his Tylan, as suggested by Wyorp Rock and started him on the vitamin regimen. I’m hopeful that the progress will continue and I’ll keep the updates going. Thanks!

Glad to hear he is improving.
