My rooster was attacked this morning by another rooster. He is paralyzed in his left leg, so I had him in a separate coop. He somehow managed to escape last night and the other rooster had gotten him pretty bad before I noticed what was going on. There's blood all over his face, but it doesn't seem to be coming from his nose/ears. He may have lost his left eye, and he doesn't want to open either of them. His beak is cracked badly, up towards his nose. He also has a really bad case of lice that I've been trying to get rid of for a while, and I'm worried that that will weaken him. He's also shivering even though it isn't cold out and he's warm. I'll post some pictures down below. Please don't hesitate to answer with anything. He's a really sweet little rooster and I'd hate to lose him. This is an emergency and I'm really worried! Please help!!

ok, I'm no expert but what i would do is was allis wounds with soapy water and apply neosporen, make sure it docent have any pain medicine in it, as for the lice try putting diatomaceous earth were he likes dust bathing, let him rest and check for wounds on his legs, ,hope this helps him at least a little bit

@TwinsLoveChicks How is your rooster doing?

Poor fella. The shivering would be shock, so keep him in a warm quiet area. Provide him with some poultry vitamins or electrolytes.

For his wounds, as suggested, gently flush them with saline or soapy water. For the eyes use saline. When he is more alert, carefully inspect him for any puncture wounds, cuts/scrapes, etc. that may be hidden underneath his feathers. Apply some triple antibiotic ointment or Vetericyn to the wounds.

His beak will be very sore, but he need to stay hydrated - try to push fluids on him, you may need to drop water beside his beak to see if he will take it in. Give him time to recover before attempting to do any repairs to the beak. @crazy rooster34 referenced a good article for that. If he feels up to eating once you get him hydrated, offer wet feed or some hard boiled egg - soft things for him - he needs the extra protein and his normal feed if at all possible.

For the lice, treat him with a Permethrin based poultry dust or spray. They will weaken him further if not taken care of. While DE (diatomaceous earth) can work well in dust bathing areas and help with prevention of mites/lice, it is not that effective once there is an infestation.

Let us know how he is doing.

Here's a few products that can be found at your local feed store or online - most Tractor Supply stores carry poultry dust or spray.

Just read this, I'm so sorry about your rooster!! Our young Orpington rooster recently passed away because our girls and other rooster attacked him. He was "scalped" not enough to see bone but chunks of skin were missing and he had no feathers on his head. He was also bleeding from his ears and around his eyes. We loved him, and he was always just a little different. We suspect that he had a disease because he always walked funny, like his legs were too long for his body and he was super light like he wasn't eating enough. He was a sweet boy and I miss him so much, I would never want anyone else to experience that so I'm praying for you both!! Good luck with your baby boy :fl

Thanks everyone! Here's an update. He made it through the night, and he seems a little bit more alert today. I think the main problem is that he can't see to eat. He opens his right eye when I pick him up or if he gets surprised, but other than that he keeps it closed. I've been really busy lately, so I haven't really had a chance to try anything, but thanks for the good thoughts and prayers, they're really helping. I'm sorry to hear about your sweet boy, @LoveseedFarms . Thanks again!

P.S. Here's what he looked like as a baby. His name is Raven.
