EMERGENCY!

Sometimes my Sieben would have that swollen, off-to-the-side pouch thing. Looked really worrisome. It never proved to be a problem. There may be other reasons, but one common one is that she's drunk quite a bit of water.

Any chance she'll let you touch her from the bottom of her mouth all the way down her neck to see if there is a bump? Did she swallow a 2 inch stick or something? Just thinking outloud here.

She's extremely comfortable with me touching her as she's a loved family pet. I don't feel anything in her pouch. But someone thing really concerning is that her spine is coming forward more than her trachea tube.

I had a runner duck get himself entwined in a fence. When we got him out he looked like that for a couple days.

Give it a couple days, especially if she is otherwise fine.

It could be, then, that she did get stuck somehow and really twisted her neck up trying to extricate herself, or somehow was involved in some other kind of accident causing this injury.

Have you watched her eat and drink? I hope everything inside is still attached. Forgive my wondering, here, I don't want to alarm you, but I don't know if such twisting could have detached something near the bottom of the esophagus. Do you have a vet? I would bring her in.

I looked it up and there is something called tracheobronchial injury. This is just some brainstorming, worst-case stuff. If there is a separation that could be serious. Interestingly, there is a record of a wild duck having had one of these injuries and it healing on its own.

She is so much better. She stayed inside all night with food and water and she's able to move her neck now and is energetic. I wonder what happened though. She probably pulled a muscle or something. She was so excited to get back with her flock that she accidentally scratched my arm! But she's healthy and okay, so it's alright. (I hate to play favorites, but she's the family's "best duck". c: )

So happy to hear the good news. put something on the scratch. She may have just stuck her neck out too far into something, you may never know for sure..
