Emu and ducks together?

This is an off in the indefinite future thing if at all, but once I start thinking about something…..
Shopping list…

Extra large wire dog crate - for your bedroom (if you don’t sleep with them with their diapers on)

Secure play pen - for daytime

Heat lamp - if they’re outside during the day and it’s cold

Ratite feed

Food and water bowls

They poop ALOT, so they need material that can easily be changed out when inside the house

Bam! Now it’s emu time. They’re friendlier in the long run if they’re raised in the house or VERY close to you for the first few weeks or more.

How do they do in cold weather? My next duck house is going to be large, perhaps large enough for emu habitation under the same roof, do they need an emu friend or are they ok with other birds as company?

They do need another emu. They don’t bond with other species. I’m sure they would be “ok” but they do better with company of another emu. You would need to purchase two chicks, as the adults don’t always get along if they don’t grow up together.

They do fantastic in cold weather. This was two weeks or so ago. All the tracks in the snow are mainly from them. It was down to 6F and they could have cared less.

She does, and she does, i am currently avoiding venturing that close to temptation….

Psst, the emus are laying, the eggs are fertile, and I'm taking names for chicks.

:p

And yes, emus and ducks definitely can live together. Mine live together!

Ugh.
At the moment I don’t have housing for them, I have to get that straightened out first. I suspect we are in a possibility next year kind of situation here.
