Emu Egg Hatch-along

Pics
Oh I forgot - sort of… I got a little grid ball with a bell inside it that they seemed to find interesting. I hung it from the side of their dog crate. I think it was just a parakeet toy. I also had a little mirror that they did seem to like for a while as well. Once they were big enough to go outside and run I’d throw dog toys that they’d chase after.
I'll see what toys I have that my dogs and cats aren't using. Maybe they would play with them.

Your bathroom looks huge so I guess I thought it was your kitchen 🤣

Beautiful property by the way. It looks like such a great place for your emu and other farm babies to run around!

I can’t remember where the ball came from but here’s a picture.

Thanks! I am guessing you found them sticking their heads and necks through. I have towels draped at the moment for that reason. Keeps then from pacing too.
I was always afraid they’d get their heads stuck somewhere. I put hardware cloth around the crate. And the little towels to keep them from catching their feet on the entrance to the crate. They literally started bouncing off the cardboard walls when they had zoomies. 🤣

Lol!

Did you put grit out for them? I have been giving mostly chopped kale and a few pieces of chopped strawberries and their emu stater pellets. They like the kale and strawberries, not a lot of interest in the pellets yet.

I did put a little chick grit out. They ate ratite starter pretty happily but I think I also scattered a little regular chick crumble too (non medicated)… I really need to look back to my notes! But they looooved kale. And spinach. They sort of ate strawberry bits but usually made a mess shaking their heads around🤣. My favorite thing was “showing” them how to drink water. I love how they scoop it.

Ok. I have some chick grit. I got to thinking since they were eating things other than pellets I may need to put it out. I couldn't recall what I did last year other than Rooster booster vitamins. I need to take notes too!

Ah! I hope this one is just hiding it's wiggles! Maybe you can find some local eggs and sneak them in the incubator when no one is looking. Have you checked craiglist?
I hope so too. I've been watching! The end that tips down (pointy end?) definitely feels warmer to me now after watching for wiggles for a couple minutes. How reliable of a sign is that? I've watched for wiggles but I think my eyes keep playing tricks on me. Either that or maybe I'm hopefully seeing some. Not sure. I haven't, I doubt I'd find any but I'll try looking and see. No one in my state has any birds I swear 🤣
Yes it had stopped wiggling and had passed. Very sad.

No wiggling in the other two. One is not leaning at all so I am certain that one is a no go and the other is leaning too much. Not hopeful at all.

I have my two cuties! They are getting really silly and trying to hop. I took the hobble off the blonde baby and it's doing well. They are exploring their water and a flashing ball toy they are fascinated with. Dna well go out on Monday and I'll have results the following week. I mail in the egg shell lining.

The geese do well in pairs. I hate to rehome them. They are such beautiful geese. Maybe I'll just relocate 2 boys to their own pen for breeding season and see if I can get a few more girls. I am so picky about rehoming/ selling. I am not good at it.

Aww, too bad. Keep us posted on them.

Omg they are too cute!!! That sounds like a good plan. I hate selling too.
No wiggling, but it's too early for that too, I think. Day 29 , today. Only a temperature difference 🫢
How is it doing today? Anything new?
@FNF I finished watching your uploaded baby videos today. So cute and funny! I love how you adapted your pens with cardboard, towels, etc. I definitely do the same. I can't believe you got away with keeping them in the kitchen 🤣 My husband draws very few lines for my crazy animal adventures, but after one year raising 4 chicks in the kitchen I have been banned. How long were they there and inside? Every year he says no more birds in the house. Well, you see how that goes for him. 🤣 I am blessed.

Your videos look like mine sitting in the pen hanging out and playing. Speaking of playing, did you find any toys they really liked?

They have decided that kale and strawberries are yummy and considering pecking at the actual feed. They are so sweet. I am in love!
