I used 5 foot welded wire. I spaced the 2X4 post 5 feet apart and just ran it down 1 foot underground.

Lots of great ideas and nice looking coops & runs.
Here is mine, as you can tell it holds up well to the snow. We were lucky enough to get some greenhouse plastic to cover it with during the winter.
