Here's a link to the chicken bus we came up with.

Don't know if it's a contest winner, but Odie and I had a real interesting time putting it together. I don't have too much technical info to offer as I'm not exactly a master carpenter and Odie, my dog, didn't take proper notes as we worked. He's not real accurate with a tape measure either. We worked on the coop for about three weeks in the evenings and days off. Most all of the materials we scrounged from stuff I had laying around or at friends places. The bus itself came from a friend that had it parked in his field after tearing the engine, tranny, and wheelchair lift out of it. We towed it four miles to my place using a farm tractor. We got a few strange looks passing thru town, but Odie and I are used to getting strange looks. The good wife was suitably nonplussed with the overall look of a derelict bus setting in the back 40, so we boxed it in with some old oak fence boards i had.
The chickens seem to be happy and it makes a nice, secure, well lit, weather proof structure. The local predators have pretty much given up on breaking in for a free chicken dinner. I did have one incident with a large blacksnake conducting a raid that ended with his relocation to a friend's farm. A few hawks tried using the net for a trampoline and that was entertaining. Overall, Odie and I had a good time getting it together and we are enjoying setting and watching the birds do their thing.
Oh, one more thing! Does anybody know where I can find a full sized school bus for our next project??
