English Chick/Jamie Oliver question

Miss Prissy, you are so right about iced tea. Born a southerner, I love it too. I was surprised to hear a lady from NW Iowa say her family never drank iced tea. I said, "What do you mean you didn't drink iced tea, you grew up on a farm!" So, do all of you Iowa people drink iced tea or is it mostly a southern drink? I'm not keen on iced coffee but I've only had it a couple of times. Maybe if it was sugared and milked properly--who knows!

I grew up with iced tea, but since I got old(er) I can barely stand it. I drink it if offered at a friends or a party and to be polite, but it's far from my preference... now I prefer my tea hot and brewed by the pot, usually loose tea, but I do keep Red Rose teabags around, for the odd cuppa or for when my brother is visiting to make HIM iced tea...

I got a wonderful package of indulgences from a friend for Christmas, and she tucked in a box of 100% ginger root teabags... it's quite good, but takes getting used to I think. Here's a place I've ordered loose tea from as well... http://www.worldspice.com/teas/teas.shtml VERY good people, very good spices and teas.

I do like iced coffee, but yes, only with sugar and milk.

I usually drink my hot coffee straight black, but my hot tea sugar/milk status varies by variaty and mood. Every now and then, my 'desert' is coffee with honey and milk... yum.

What would Jamie Say!??!

What a lot of people fail to realize is the southern iced tea is an art the same as making the perfect pot o' tea.

Most people cannot make good tea iced or hot.

Or they use instant and think they can fool you.

And the sometimes with tea I like to make Sun Tea, I don't know if anyone has ever tried it or even heard of it on BYC. That is what I sometimes crave in the hot summer

Have you tried hibiscus tea? I tried it because it was mentioned in a health newsletter. It is supposed to be good for elevated blood pressure and stress. Some health food stores carry it but it was ordered for me and about $3. My son was in Iraq and I thought he would definitely have elevated blood pressure and stress! He is a civilian now and was home for Christmas and said it is good tea. A lot of young people seem to be tea drinkers rather than coffee drinkers.

My mum and dad used to frequent Jamie Olivers dads pub/restaurant, where he worked for a good deal of his teenage years LOL.

Back when they went there, he was cooking and serving.

Brew tea.

Chill well.

Add ice.

Add straw.

Sweeten to taste.

Drink.

Variations include "sweet tea", "sun tea" and "Long Island Iced Tea" (my favourite).
