English Mastiff vs French Mastiff

I think the English Mastiff it is a more elegant breed. My wife and I had a BullMastiff and unfortunately had to find it a loving home when we had babies. I have an Argentine Mastiff (Dogo) out of champion bloodlines. They are a breed you should look into also. Not quite the size but twice the heart in my opinion. Just look up Argentine Dogo or Argentine Mastiff. A true elegant breed with purpose.

I don't have either breed. I do have bullmastiffs. And while french mastiffs are built on more similar lines as the bullmastiffs there is alot of bully blood in the english. While english mastiffs are the older breed and were part of the original formula for making the bullmastiif, the bullmastiff more than repaid their genetic debt to the english mastiff when after the war the english as a breed was almost decimated and was rebuilt using bullies!...Also if you get a male, I always though Benson(Ben for short) would be a perfect mastiff name!

As far as getting another I am currently staying with my folks and they are not big dog people(they aint really big animal people), and we also no longer have a fenced in area for her to run in so I wouldnt feel right having one atm... We have way too many wandering dogs and a dog that large needs room to run off the leash... One day though I WILL be getting another

Just wanted to mention, in being such a big dog it is definitely different financially. Everything costs twice as much, food, beds, collars, toys, chew bones, vet bills, health testing, etc... Make sure you do your research and check out the forum I listed for ya! www.worldmastiffforum.com/

I know its going to cost alot, lol. We had an american bulldog who died last year due to a heat stroke in June. I took him on a three mile walk with me and my poodle at about 8 in the morning and we were almost he collapsed and was breathing very hard. I didn't know what to do, I started crying and called my dad to come get him and rush him to the vet. His temperature had risen to 109 degrees and he died 2 days later. It broke my heart into 5 million peices because I felt like I had killed him.

But I am ready for another big dog

I am 110% positive I am getting an English Mastiff, I'm just saving my money now

I am in love with the breed completely <3

I love the Nepolitan mastiffs, but since you didn't ask about them I'd go with the English!!

I don't have a Mastiff, but I volunteer for a rescue group that has all giant breed (including all of the mastiffs). There is a lot of info on their website, and they are always happy to talk dogs, breeds, etc.

They are a wonderful group from which to get info, even if you don't want to adopt.
I just adopted a beautiful Great Pyr Mix from them, and we just adore her.
