It's amazing the little tricks we learn...lol

That's an amazing harvest. I can't wait to see how we do next year. Just have to get these girls through winter. If I have to buy bees, we'll miss the apple and stone fruit bloom again.

I might sell honey next year, if we get an abundance. A lot of people have asked me.

Past 2 yrs have done well, both hives together give us, spring and fall combined about 200 to 275, Next yr the split depending on weather will produce the same. I don't want any more than 3 hives getting too old.

That's awesome. Yeah, I'm right there with you on that...lol I want 3 production hives and a resource/observation hive. I want to raise my own queens. We've even talked about maybe building a long Langstroth hive. Much easier on the body.

Thanks, it finally did, it was out for 5.5 hours.

In the past,, we used to have power outages quite often. Some lasted 3 days. My main concern was the food in refrigerators/freezers.
So I got a Generator. Not one of those whole house High Dollar units. Just a 7 horsie unit. Enough to power all lights, and refrigerators. We refrained from using high power consumption things, like AC, Clothes Iron, Microwave, Toaster, and such, during that time.
4 gallon tank would last about 12 hours or so.
Now that we have generator,,,, HARDLY EVER A POWER OUTAGE

That sounds about right! Your neighbors should thank you...lol

It's good that you have it if you need it. We had a small one and someone stole it. My son had it out in his semi trailer, they also took my husband's tig welder and a lot more stuff. We really should get another one.

I reported the loss to my insurance.
Here is the winning part.
Insurance treated it as 2 separate losses, and did 2 separate deductibles. Then after they paid me,, they raised my rates for the next 3 years. They claimed I was a HIGH RISK.
Lets just say, whatever they paid me,, they garnished in the increased premiums.

Insurance is definitely in the business of making money, they are not for their customers. Insurance is one of the biggest scams in our country.

Not a big harvest, but we have 5 1/2 quart jars of honey! Hubby says it reminds him of the buckwheat honey he used to get as a kid.

They hadn't made much more in the last couple weeks in the super. We looked down under the QE, and the top brood box had at least one frame of capped honey.

The Newbies looked good too! Nice brood pattern and there was a frame of mostly capped honey too. We put another deep on with new (bare) frames, so they can do whatever they want. Get a head start on spring, maybe?

They were still on the buckwheat, and the golden rod is just starting. We left the QE on, and we'll see what they make in another two-three weeks. I wouldn't mind a bit more honey going into winter, but if not, we'll make what we have be enough.

Yay 5.5 quarts is great. Hopefully you'll get more.
It's good that they are filling out frames in the brood boxes, getting ready for winter. Do you have a picture? I would love to see the color of it.

It will be interesting to see how it compares in color to our buckwheat honey.
