Enough brooder space?

Why only one chick? I’d be very careful brooding a single chick. Couldn’t you raise two and give the other away once they reach the right age? Not sure how big 10 gallons is, but I’ve seen negative reviews on brooding in tanks due to lack of ventilation

We have two chicks living outside but are getting a third. We have a brand new 10 gallon aquarium that we want to raise our 1 week old Buff Orpington Chick in and was wondering if it would be enough space for 1 chick for 4 weeks. Thanks!

That'll be really small, with water and feed in there too by the time the chick is 5 weeks there will be no room to move.

Good day everyone,
We are going to raise our first chickens ever. We will most likely get one day olds. we are going to start with 4 buff orpingtons. what size of a brooder should we have?

From what I’ve read chicken chicks need a minimum of 10square inches each for the first four/five weeks. The brooder should always be as big as possible with as much ventilation as possible. I use a 4x3x2 rabbit cage, works perfect for me, I’d only put up to 15 chicks in this max, mine go outside at four/five weeks

Thanks, that sound like a great idea..... I am only going to start with 4 buff orpingtons, just trying to gather as much info as i can. I am finding it hard to find a place in my area for day old chicks. Asheville NC

You could maybe post on your state thread or find a hatchery close by or that ships?
