I have my Quail on the back of my Shed with a Plywood roof over the cages. It's pretty shady there. Is this enough light for them to produce eggs? In other words they are not in direct sunlight.

You don't need direct sunlight for them to lay eggs, just 18 hours of light per day. Any light will do. I raise/breed mine in my basement with a light bulb on a timer.

Yep they just need to visually see light

The reason that winter time they won't lay is because the duration of the visual light isnt long enough to keep them stimulated for breeding season so yes this time of year is perfectly suitable for egg laying

Thanks to both of you for your help. I'm new to this Quail thing. Quail seem to me to be a good way to raise some meat to become more self sustaining.
